THE FIELD GUIDE

How to play
the geography quiz.

Choose a country, think beyond the obvious, and explore the world one clue at a time.

Five questions, one country per clue

Krillion Farflung is a five-question geography game. For each clue, choose one country that satisfies the stated conditions. A correct answer earns points; an unexpected valid answer may earn more. You can review the answer list and source links after each question.

  1. Read the clue and its scope. Some questions use a particular date, dataset, region, or definition.
  2. Choose a country. Select it on the world map, or type its name into country search. For small countries, use the map markers or open the Small countries list; country search is available too. Areas outside the game’s country list remain unavailable.
  3. Confirm your answer. You can change your selection before confirming. Select Skip if you prefer not to answer.
  4. Review and continue. Read the result and explanation, then go to the next question. Five rounds make one expedition.

Use the plus and minus controls to zoom the map and Reset to return to the starting view. When zoomed in, drag the map to explore.

Daily geography challenge, unlimited play and chapters

Daily uses a fixed set of five questions for the same UTC date. A new scheduled set starts at midnight UTC. If you are playing when the date changes, your current expedition keeps its original questions. Previously scheduled dates are available in the archive as practice.

Unlimited draws another five-question set from the available question bank. Chapters offer fixed themed sets; search the chapter list to find one. The game currently has 150 questions and 30 chapters.

Daily sets from November 5, 2026 use the expanded 150-question bank. An unfinished set started before the calendar update can still be resumed. Questions may repeat across dates.

Relaxed and timed modes

Choose Relaxed for no time limit, or Timed for 60 seconds per question. The timer keeps running when help is open or the page is away. If it expires, the round scores zero and an unconfirmed selection is not submitted.

An unfinished expedition can be resumed on the same browser, subject to local storage being available. Daily attempts are kept separately for Relaxed and Timed. Abandoning a first Daily attempt means a later start for that same date and pace is practice.

Scores, records and source limits

A correct answer earns 40, 55, 70, 85 or 100 points; an incorrect answer, skip or timeout earns zero. Five rounds can total up to 500. Rarity tiers use editorial estimates or source-data proxies, not live player statistics. See the scoring guide for details.

If a question’s source does not contain the information needed to judge a country, the game asks you to choose another country instead of marking that selection wrong. The game uses source snapshots and a map that is not a fully audited atlas.

Completed records are stored in this browser and can be exported or imported as JSON. A separate share summary omits country names and question text. Read the privacy page for local storage and analytics details.
